$ - Bar - Old Town Prague

THE SPACE

We got there at 10pm on a Tuesday night and the outside was blocked off. We were able to get a table for 3 immediately but others pretty soon after us had to wait. The space isn’t huge but has a small upper level in the back and at this point in the night was pretty dimly lit. There’s a bunch of paintings on the walls of famous people with anonymous masks and it definitely has a speakeasy feel.

THE MENU

While their cocktails are definitely the highlight, they do have some bar snacks and a long list of liquor, soft drinks, wine, coffee, beer, etc. The cocktail menu has very interesting drinks that are served in a fun way, have a surprise accompanying flair, or both. We had the AnonTiki (rum + apricot brandy + passionfruit juice + coconut syrup + Angostura bitters + fresh orange/lime), the Valerie's Rose (pink gin + white wine + Chartreuse elixir + rose lemonade + simple syrup + fresh lime), and the Message (Calvados (pear brandy) + apple liqueur + sparkling wine + honey water + fresh lime). My friend who ordered the Message was presented with a postcard and was told she could send it to anywhere in the world!

As we sipped our fun and delicious drinks, the room suddenly went a little darker and silent. A bartender wearing an Anonymous mask walks over to the table next to us with a pan of fire and artfully does tricks with it. Everyone is cheering and I take out my camera - definitely a very fun experience! This happens a couple more times throughout the night and I find out later this drink is called the Hot Fawkes and is served in a teacup.

A little bit after the show, we notice a table using a little UV/blacklight on their menu. We ask the waiter for one, they bring us a little light and (after some clicking) we shine it over our menu. Much to our delight, we find a whole other secret menu of drinks!

From this, we choose the Spicy Slingshot (tequila blanco + dry vermouth + peach bitters + agave), Watchdog (vodka + italian aperitivo + sherry wine + cranberry compote + fresh lime), and the Cookie Monster (vodka + coffee liqueur + cookie).

FINAL VERDICT

As always with places with a gimmick and that are much talked about, I was worried AnonymouS bar would be overhyped and/or fall flat. This was totally not the case - the place had a great vibe, the staff were lovely, and each drink not only looked fantastic but also tasted great. It was our last night in Prague after a lovely few days together with good friends I hadn’t seen in a while and we had a great night out in Prague that really marked our trip. Will definitely go back next time I’m in Prague - excited to try all the other cool drinks and find more secret menus!

P.S. Ask for a floppy disk 🤫
